Share the school run, share your costs

About kentschoolrun

What is kentschoolrun?

Kentschoolrun is a scheme that enables parents to share the regular school run with other parents. The aim of the scheme is to cut down on the number of cars on the road: reducing congestion and pollution in Kent.

The scheme allows you to find participating parents who live nearby, and who make a similar journey to school each day. Not only will you save on costs, but you will also save considerable time each day that you would otherwise spend in traffic.

29% of children travel to school by car

1 in 5 cars on the road during peak times are making the school run

Why share the schoolrun?

Roughly 1 in 5 peak time traffic journeys are thought to be schoolrun related. That’s an incredible amount of journeys that could be shared. And if the amount of school run journeys could be reduced, just think of the reduction in congestion and pollution that would result.

Road safety would also increase, particularly for children walking or cycling to school. Not only would there be less traffic on the roads, but there would also be less parking and dropping-off around schools – increasing visibility, and making roads safer for children.

Who runs Kentschoolrun?

Kent County Council has teamed up with Liftshare, the UK’s leading provider of online car sharing schemes in the country, to create Kentschoolrun for all schools in Kent.

The Council subsidises membership of Kentschoolrun to allow school and parents in Kent to experience the benefits of car sharing.

Who is liftshare?

liftshare is a well-established, online car sharing scheme provider that operates schemes for councils, organisations and schools throughout the UK. liftshare currently operates over 500 car sharing schemes throughout the UK including School-run.org for schools around the UK.

Nearly 90,000 journeys have so far been logged on car sharing schemes operated by liftshare.

Why has Kent County Council created kentschoolrun?

Kent County Council encourages schools in Kent to join kentschoolrun, to help us reduce congestion and pollution in Kent by encouraging sustainable travel. We believe that car sharing will be a popular convenient step for schools and parents that will make a real difference to reducing the number of cars journeys made in Kent

It is not just the schoolrun that the Council are encouraging people to carsharing for. Kentschoolrun is linked with the kentcarshare scheme for Kent, also developed by Kent County Council and Liftshare. This is for the general public, the commute to work and any other journeys in Kent or around the UK. For more details about kentcarshare log onto www.kent.gov.uk/carshare

kentschoolrun is part of the New Ways to School initiative promoted by KCC’s School Travel Planners which encourages schools to develop travel plans aimed at reducing car dependency on the journey to school.
