Policy documents and advice on School Travel Plans

  • A Good Practice Guide to School Travel Plans
    DfT resource, providing information on walking, cycling, encouraging bus use and carsharing. It also gives advice on transport provision for children with special needs and sustainable travel programmes within and outside the curriclum.

Resources to help you develop your School Travel Plan

  • A safer journey to school - A Guide to School Travel Plans.
    This DfT resource is acomprehensive guide for parents, teachers and governors on how to set up, map out and take forward a travel plan. It includes guidance on how to develop safer routes to school, accesses the possible modes of transport and how to go about seeking funding.

    An easy to read newsletter which gives step by step advice and guidence on how to set up a travel plan for your school.

    The SRSC was founded in 1985. It is funded by the Scottish Executive and its remit is to develop and co-ordinate Scotland’s wide road safety initiatives and campaigns. The SRSC works closely with all local authority and police road safety units in an attempt to ensure a co-ordinated approach to road safety in Scotland.
